Color: Light brown along the back, white tinged with yellow on the sides and beneath. Dark brown bands. Fins are yellow stained with orange. black spot present sometimes.

Head length of fish equals its distance from the base of the dorsal fin. Eyes are in or little before the middle of the length of the head and are small in adults. The interorbital space is nearly flat and very broad in adults, in which it exceeds the length of the snout. Lower teeth are a little larger than the upper pair. Dorsal fin with its central ray is somewhat the highest. It is situated in the last third of the distance between the front edge of the eye and the base of the caudal fin. Anal fin is situated beneath the dorsal fin. Caudal fin is truncated. Spines are with 2 roots.
