Color: upper surface is deep grey or brown, becoming white below with 8-10 longitudinal black stripe.

Length of the head equals its distance from the base of the dorsal fin. Eyes are situated in about the middle of the length of the head. Interorbital space is broad and flat. Teeth are of about the same size present in either jaw. Fins are rounded. Dorsal is situated in the last fourth of its total length. Its height somewhat exceeds half the length. Small spines cover the entire body except the forepart of the snout.
