Color: Dark reddish brown.

Shell is large, very thick and solid; surface of the shell is covered with a thick, greenish brown epidermis; whorls are strongly angularly shouldered, and the shoulders bear very strongly developed tubercles; the tubercles are antero-posteriorly compressed and more or less angular; whorls of the spire are sculptured with fine, but well raised spiral ridges, while the body whorl is relatively smooth, its sculpture reduced to feebly developed, spiral grooves. sutures are peculiar in being strongly sunk in deep, narrow grooves; aperture is elongated and roughly rectangular in profile, with the columellar border slightly concavely arched; operculum is elongately ovate with a terminal nucleus; umbilicus is almost closed.
