Errect, glabrous herbs; stems simple or often branched, angular, strongly ribbed. Leaves alternate, linear-lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, acute or obtuse at apex, attenuate at base. Flowers whitish-pink, in terminal condensed cylindrical spikes; recemes during anthesis elongated, unbranched. utricles 3-4 mm long, ellipsoid circumscissile about the middle.
