Color: Blue green or pale blue green.

Thalli small, endophytic within cells of diatom. Trichomes short, 40-50 µm in length, 5-9.8 µm in diameter, slightly swollen at the apex, distinctly constricted at the cross walls, apical cell often a little larger than others, nearly spherical. Heterocyst basal, 9-11.2 µm in diameter, spherical or nearly spherical.
