Size: 125 mm.

Color: In preserved specimens light brown, sides of body and tail with numerous white ocelli, bordered by dark brown, as large as or somewhat larger than eye. Pectorals dark brown with similar ocelli. Dorsal whitish, the posterior half of the fin dark brown, the tips of the rays white. Anal and ventrals dark brown lighter at base. Caudal dark brown with two incomplete white cross bands which form white blotches on the upper part of the fin.

Height 4.2-4.6, 5.5-5.7 in length with caudal. Eye 5.7-6, 1.6 in snout and 1.5-1.6 in concave interorbital space. Maxillary reaching to below anterior border of eye. Preorbital with two spines directed downwards. Peduncle of premaxillaries reaching to between eyes, the median part of the interorbital space hence elevated. Supraorbital ridges connected behind eyes by a transverse ridge, from which the parallel superior postorbital ridges originate which are again connected by a transverse bony ridge, they are continued back wards along anterior part of dorsal. Inferior postorbital ridges with complicated spines. Preopercular edge with four spines, opercle with two ridges. Lateral line with about 15 distant pores, the anterior ones with a low bifurcated flap anteriorly, the posterior ones in distinct. Dorsal and anal covered by thick skin, the spines and rays hence difficult to count. Both fins low and connected by membrane to caudal peduncle. Ventrals as long as head, pectorals much longer. Caudal slightly rounded.
