Size: 300 mm.

Color: In preserved specimens uniform yellowish or brownish. In very young specimens the spinous dorsal has a black terminal border.

Height 2.8-2.9, 3.5-3.6 in length with caudal. Head 2.3-2.4, 2.9-3 in length with caudal. Eye 4.1-5.3, 1.2-1.6 in snout and 1.1-1.3 in flat interorbital space. Mouth oblique. Maxillary reaching almost to below hind border of eye. Narrow villi form bands of teeth in the jaws, on vomer, and on palatines. Sides of head scaly. Preorbital with three rather long spines, the anterior one directed forwards, the last one backwards. Supraorbital ridge and post orbital ridges feebly developed, with indications of spines only. An oblong shallow fontanel, partly interorbital, partly postorbital. Suborbital ridge without spines. Three strong preopercular spines, two opercular spines. About ten scales before dorsal, the origin of which is slightly before that of pectorals and above second half of upper border of opercle. First dorsal spine equal to half eye or somewhat longer, fourth spine longest and as long as distance between hind border of eye and upper end of gill opening. Penultimate spine minute, last dorsal spine is length between second and third dorsal spines. Soft dorsal somewhat rounded, slightly higher than spinous part. Origin of anal below first dorsal ray, first anal spine very small, third longest and equal to or slightly longer than fourth dorsal spine. Longest anal rays longer than dorsal ones. Pectorals long, reaching on anus, as long as distance between upper end of gill opening and anterior preorbital spine. Ventrals as long as distance between that spine and posterior border of eye. Caudal truncate.
