Description
Size: Apical axis 12-260 µm; transapical axis 60-80 µm (Hendey, 1964).

Color: Yellow brown.

Cells are solitary or connected by their processes into short chains. The cells are cushion shaped in girdle view, with the edge of the valve raised and drawn out to form form a straight to slightly curved process. Just next to the base of this process, on each side of the valve apex a stout spine arises, which usually exceed the outer process in length, being equal to or longer than the apical length of the valve. Each cell contains numerous, irregularly shaped chloroplasts.

Reproduction is general for group: both sexual and asexual.
