Size: 135 mm.

Color: In preserved specimens olive, and more or less silvery below, the scales of black and sides with a broad dark brown sub terminal and a narrow light terminal border. Dorsal and anal dark brown, the posterior half of the soft dorsal and anal creamy. Caudal creamy, the upper and lower borders brown. Pectorals and ventrals grayish. A triangular black blotch at base of pectoral superiorly.

Height 1.6, 2-2.1 in length with caudal. Head 3.4-3.6, 4.4-4.5 in length with caudal. Length of head 1.7-1.8 in its height. Eye 2.5-3, more than snout and 1.1-1.2 in convex inter orbital space. Mouth very oblique. Maxillary reaching to below front border of eye. Teeth truncate, in a single series. Preorbital notched, suborbital narrow, both bones with a row of scales. Two transverse rows of scales on preopercle and a third row consisting of more deciduous ones on inferior limb. A narrow posterior limb with some deciduous scales. Scales on upper part of head reaching to upper lip, the anterior scales smaller than the posterior ones. First dorsal spine less than eye, second more than double as long as first, third to eighth sub equal, as long as head without snout, the following ones slightly shorter. Last spine separated by 1-1 1/2 scales from lateral line, the scales of the dorsal sheath not counted. Soft dorsal high and pointed, the longest rays as long as head without snout or somewhat longer. First anal spine as long as first dorsal spine or somewhat longer, second anal spine long and strong, equal to head without snout or longer. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals almost one eye diameter longer than head. Ventrals with the first ray produced and reaching on anal, longer than pectorals. Caudal forked.
