Description
Size: 283 mm.
Color: In preserved specimens reddish brown, lighter below. Many scales of body and tail with dark spots. Some chalky white spots, more or less arranged in longitudinal rows, on head and body. Sometimes these spots assume the form of short stripes, specially on the sides of the head. Two light bands from eye and cheek downwards, running along the chin and continued in those of the other side, may be present. Dorsal with dusky spots, one or two large dusky blotches or transverse bands on membrane between first and second dorsal spines. Anal with or without dusky oblique bands. Caudal with dusky spots. Pectorals hyaline, with a pinkish hue and a pale brownish band along their base. Ventrals hyaline with a pinkish hue.
Height 3.2-3.3, 3.8-4.2 in length with caudal. Head 3-3.2, 3.7-3.9 in length with caudal. Height of head 1.1-1.2 in its length. Eye 4.4-4.9, 1.5-1.9 in snout and 1-1.4 in nearly flat inter orbital space. Mouth horizontal. Corner of mouth not quite reaching to below anterior nostril. Outer side of upper jaw superiorly with strong canines, the anterior ones directed forwards, the posterior ones flaring outwards and backwards. One transverse row of scales on cheek. Four scales before dorsal, the anterior one not larger than others and situated immediately behind eye. Dorsal spines flexible, not pungent, the first equal to snout, the last nearly half diameter of eye longer and scarcely less than longest branched rays. First anal spine minute, third slightly shorter than snout, the longest branched anal rays equal to snout and half eye together. Pectorals and ventrals sub equal, equal to snout and eye. Caudal slightly rounded.
Remarks: Values in above description denote proportions.
