Size: 60-92 mm

Color: Variable; generally light brown, sides with indistinct brown spots separated by lighter interspaces and narrow brown stripes on head. Second dorsal, anal and pectoral hyaline. Caudal pale.

Head 3.0-3.1 in standard length, 3.7-3.8 in total length. Depth of body at origin of dorsal 2.1-2.3 in standard length, 2.6-2.8 in total length. Dorsal profile of head slightly concave. Eye diameter 3.8-4.3 in head, 2.8-3.3 in snout and 1.0-1.2 in interorbital space. Gill opening below hind part of eye. Origin of first dorsal fin above anterior part of eye, its length more than snout, with minute tubercles. Second dorsal spine minute. Dorsal spine retractable in a groove when depressed. Pectoral fin 1.6-1.7 of eye diameter. Ventral spine immovable, short and covered with spinules.
Number of spines in the first dorsal fin: II; number of spines and rays in the second dorsal fin: 33-35; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: 30-31; number of rays in the pectoral fin: 13-14.
