Size: 200 cm.

Color: Nearly black on the back, sides grayish with oblique transverse lines and series of silvery white dots. First dorsal grayish tinged with yellow, tips of second dorsal, anal, and dorsal and anal fin lets bright yellow. Pectorals black on the inner side, grayish or sometimes yellowish on the outer side.

Height 3.6-3.7. Head about 3.7. Eye 6-7, somewhat more or less than twice in snout. Mouth oblique. Maxillary reaching to below anterior part of eye. Teeth in a single series in either jaw, in an angular patch prolonged posteriorly on the vomer, and in a band on the palatines. First dorsal spine equal to snout and eye, following spines gradually decreasing in size to the last, the upper edge of the fins nearly straight or slightly concave. Second dorsal and anal long and pointed, much deeper than longest spine of first dorsal and sometimes even reaching to caudal. Pectorals about as long as head. Ventrals equal to post orbital part of head or somewhat shorter. Posterior margin of corselet indistinct.
