Size: 27-36 mm

Color: Brownish violet, pale below. Spinous dorsal olive with dusky edges. Anterior rays of soft dorsal and anal brownish to olive, posterior rays lighter. Upper and lower lobes of caudal dark olive, median rays yellowish white. Pectoral and ventral pale.

Head 3.1-3.3 in standard length, 4.4-4.7 in total length. Depth of body 2.4-2.6 in standard length, 3.4-3.7 in total length. Eye diameter 2.6-2.9 in head, 0.5-0.6 in snout and equal to or slightly more than convex interorbital space. Teeth in jaws small, the outer row slightly enlarged. None of the opercles serrated. Caudal fin lobes filamentous. Pectoral fin equal to or slightly shorter than head. Ventral fin with the first ray produced, equal to or slightly longer than head.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XII, 10-11; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: II, 11; number of rays in the pectoral fin: ii, 15-16; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 15-16+9-10; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 2+1+8.
