Description
Size: 53-67 mm

Color: Uniform bluish brown above, lighter below. Scales of body with dark margin. The scale above the origin of lateral line blackish. A blackish transverse bar at the posterior border of operculum. Spinous dorsal light brown, edged darker. Soft dorsal and anal pale brownish, posterior rays slightly lighter. Caudal pale. Anterior rays of ventral dusky, pale posteriorly. Pectoral pale yellowish with a black spot at the base of upper rays.

Head 3.2-3.3 in standard length, 4.2-4.3 in total length. Depth of body 1.8 in standard length, 2.4-2.5 in total length. Eye diameter 2.8-2.9 in head, 0.7-0.8 in snout and equal to interorbital space. Scales on head reaching to between nostrils. Second anal fin spine longer than longest dorsal fin spine. Three rows of scales on preopercle, the lower and posterior border naked. None of the opercles serrated. Pectoral fin slightly shorter than head, ventral fin equals head.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XIII, 13; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: II, 13; number of rays in the pectoral fin: ii, 16; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 18-19+9; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 3+1+11.
