Description
Size: 36-102 mm

Color: Dark brown with reddish tinge. Dorsal, anal and ventral brownish; caudal, distal part of dorsal and anal whitish.

Head 2.8-3.0 in standard length, 3.5-3.7 in total length. Depth of body 1.9-2.1 in standard length, 2.3-2.5 in total length. Eye diameter 3.3-3.5 in head, 0.9-1.2 in snout and slightly more than interorbital space. Maxillary reaching to below front border of eye. Hind border of preoperculum serrated. Pectoral fin shorter than head without snout, ventral fin longer than pectoral.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XIII-XIV, 16-18; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: III, 7-8; number of rays in the pectoral fin: ii, 14-15; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 53-56; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 11-12+1+18-20; gill raker count: 7+1+18-19.
