Size: 17 cm.

Color: Grayish above, silvery below, sometimes an indication of dark triangular patch before dorsal, spinous dorsal more or less dark brown or at least terminally blackish, paired fins hyaline.

Oblong, compressed, rostro-dorsal profile convexly ascending, ventral profile straight, height 3-3.6 in length, head about equal, obtuse, eye 3 to nearly 4 in head, situated in anterior half of head, high up, equal to convex inter orbital space and almost equal snout. Two somewhat oval approximate nostrils, the posterior largest, close to eye. Snout blunt, prominent with a median and a deeper lateral incision, between them a small lobe, above them well developed muciferous channels, cleft of mouth horizontal, inferior, upper jaw the longest reaching behind pupil, maxilla totally concealed, lower jaw at symphysis with a barbel, slightly shorter than eye, with a basal pore and two on each side. Opercle with a non-pungent spine, angle of preopercle rounded, its border weakly denticulate. Teeth in upper jaw in a single series of somewhat stronger inward curved ones and a inner narrow villi form band, anteriorly and posteriorly much broader, in the lower jaw in a single series of small conical teeth. Scales cycloid on head, otherwise ctenoid, also the smaller ones on nape, lateral line arched to opposite anal, sensory tubes terminally only partially somewhat bifid. Base of spinous dorsal less than twice shorter than soft dorsal but much higher, the third spine the highest, twice diameter of eye, the highest ray about half shorter. Soft dorsal and anal rounded, base of latter almost thrice in base of soft dorsal, the spines rather robust, the second nearly equal to first ray, the first almost one third shorter. Pectorals somewhat shorter than head without snout, acutely rounded, ventrals shorter, the first ray ending filamentous. Caudal rhombic, rounded, least height of peduncle scarcely longer than eye.
