Size: 37.5 cm.

Color: Two vertical dark bands on head, one from inter orbital space through eye over suborbital down to behind corner of mouth and a second band from nape down over operculum. Ventrals blackish, lighter at base. Membrane between anal spines and anterior rays sometimes dark.

Height 1.8-2.1, 2.7 in length with caudal. Head 2.5-3.1, 3.9 in length with caudal, 1.1-1.2 in height of head, measured in vertical through hind border of preoperculum. Eye 3.3-4, equal to slightly convex inter orbital space and 1.2-1.4 in snout. Mouth somewhat oblique. Lips thick Maxillary reaching front border of pupil. In each jaw six canines anteriorly, directed obliquely forwards. Five rows of molars in each side of upper jaw, covering almost the whole roof of the mouth, four rows in each ramus of lower jaw. Five to six transverse rows of scales on preoperculum. First dorsal spine about half length of second, which is shorter than third to fifth spine longest, nearly equal to snout and eye together. First anal spine short, second longest and somewhat longer than longest dorsal spines. Pectorals longer than head, as long as distance between end of snout and axil of pectorals. Ventrals equal to distance between end of snout and hind border of preoperculum. Caudal slightly emarginate.
