Size: 40 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish above, with silvery reflections, silvery below. Fins hyaline.

Dorsal profile strongly arched from snout to dorsal. Height 2.1, 2.7 in length with caudal. Head 3.2, 4.1 in length with caudal. Eye 3.6-4.5, more or less than snout, according to age, in young equal to, in older specimens less than convex inter orbital space. Mouth almost horizontal. Maxillary reaching to below anterior half of eye. A row of incisors anteriorly in each jaw, followed by 4 rows of molars in the upper jaw and 3 rows of similar teeth in the lower jaw, the posterior ones of middle row in the lower jaw and of third row in the upper jaw largest. Four to five transverse rows of scales on preoperculum. Third to fifth dorsal spines longest, equal to post orbital part of head, slightly less than second anal spine, which is somewhat longer than third. Soft dorsal and anal rounded, truncate behind. Pectorals about as long as distance between snout and origin of pectorals. Ventrals equal to head without snout. Caudal deeply emarginate, least height of caudal peduncle 1.3 in its length.
