Size: 30 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish above, yellowish below, with longitudinal yellowish bands, formed by spots on the scales. Head brownish. Dorsal and anal rays with dark annulations.

Dorsal profile moderately elevated, sloping down in a gentle curve from origin of anal to snout. Height equal to head, 2.8 in length, 3.4 in length with caudal. Eye 4.1, equal to somewhat convex inter orbital space and 2.3 in snout. Relative length of sides of triangle, formed by middle of pupil, angle of preoperculum and snout (in this sequence) 1:1.6:1.4. Mouth slightly Oblique, maxillary reaching to below anterior nostril. Canines moderate, anterior lateral teeth conical, posterior ones rounded and molar like. Third, fourth and fifth dorsal spines of about equal length, as long as distance between hind border of eye and a point midway between anterior and posterior nostril, Much less than longest soft dorsal rays. Anal spines strong, the third longest and equal to distance between hind border of eye and posterior nostril, shorter than longest soft anal rays. Pectorals somewhat more, ventrals somewhat less than eye and snout together. Caudal incised, the lobes rounded. Least height of caudal peduncle 1.5 in its length.
