Description
Size: 31.8 cm.
Color: In preserved specimens uniform, pearly white spots on scales of back may be present. In life with transverse dark bands on body and tail.
Dorsal profile gently curved from snout to dorsal. Height 2.7-2.8, 3.3-3.4 in length with caudal. Head 2.9-3, 3.5-3.7 in length with caudal. Eye 3.9-4.2, equal to or somewhat more than slightly convex inter orbital space and 1.9-2 in snout. Mouth slightly oblique, maxillary reaching to below vertical between nostrils. Relative length of sides of triangle, formed by middle of pupil, angle of preoperculum and snout (in this sequence) 1:1.4:1.2. Canines moderate, posterior lateral teeth strong molars. Fourth and fifth dorsal spine longest, equal to post orbital to post orbital part of head and one third of eye, less than longest soft dorsal rays. Origin of anal below last dorsal spine, separated by 14 scales from lateral line. Third anal spine longest, somewhat longer than eye, about as long as soft anal rays. Pectorals as long as or somewhat longer than snout and eye, ventrals half eye diameter shorter. Caudal moderately incised, the lobes pointed. Least height of caudal peduncle twice in its length.
Remarks: Values in above description denote proportions.
