Size: 20.5 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish, silvery below. In life rose-colored, with yellow longitudinal bands.

Height 2.8, 3.5 in length with caudal. Head 2.8, 3.5 in length with caudal. Eye 3.5, less than snout. Inter orbital space flat, 1.5 in eye. Mouth slightly oblique, maxillary reaching almost to below middle of eye. Small teeth in narrow bands in the jaws, with an outer series of enlarged ones, some of which are canines. Teeth on vomer in a diamond-shaped patch, with short lateral prolongations, on palatines in a narrow band. Head naked anteriorly. Scales on occiput beginning behind eye. Temporal region naked. Six transverse rows of scales on preoperculum. Posterior and inferior preopercular limb naked. Posterior and inferior border of preoperculum denticulate. Preopercular notch shallow. Longitudinal rows of scales above lateral line running obliquely and ascending to dorsal profile, those below laterals line parallel to axis of body. Fourth and fifth dorsal spine longest, equal to post orbital part o head. Soft part of dorsal rounded. Second and third anal spines sub equal to snout. Pectorals somewhat longer than post orbital part of head and eye together. Ventrals equal to post orbital part of head and half eye. Caudal slightly emarginate.
