Description
Size: 100 mm.

Color: In alcohol specimens yellowish, greyish on ventral side of head and body, on each side six complete transverse blackish brown bands separated by wide interspaces, the first from neck through eye to chest, the second and third likewise curved before and behind pectoral, the following three from dorsal to anal, the seventh band constituted by a vertical part on soft dorsal and anal, completed by a transverse band on root of caudal peduncle, the eight by a similar band on base of caudal, soft dorsal and anal with a white-edged brown margin, a median longitudinal black stripe from front to lip.

Orbicular, dorsal profile somewhat more elevated than ventral, rostro-dorsal profile steep and nearly straight. Height 1.4-1.5, head 3-3.5 in length. Eye situated with its anterior half in anterior half of head, somewhat shorter than convex inter orbital space and equal to or scarcely shorter than obtuse rounded snout, with small cleft of mouth and even jaws, armed with small setiform teeth. Preoperculum scarcely denticulate. Scales small, arranged in sub horizontal longitudinal series, diminishing in size posteriorly, still smaller on head and median fins, lateral line moderately arched, terminating some scales before axil of soft dorsal. Spinous dorsal subequal to soft, spines relatively strong, the median ones the highest, conspicuously heteracanthus, the longest equal to head without snout, the last shorter than half head, membrane only between last spines complete, scaly sheath wanting in anterior half of spinous fin, covering only its posterior half in an oblique ascending line, soft dorsal and anal bluntly rounded, anal spine strong, middle one the longest, equal to head without snout. Pectorals broad, shorter than head. Ventrals pointed, nearly reaching anal, their spine shorter than head. Caudal convex, least height of its very short peduncle more than eye.

Remark: Values in above description denote proportions.
