Ceramium cruciatum   F. S. Collins & Hervey,  1917 (Algae)
Organism information awaits expert curation
Class: Florideophyceae

Plants minute and creeping, the prostrate filaments about 200 µ diameter, cylindrical or slightly constricted at the nodes, attached by unicellular rhizoids. Erect filaments usually developed by assurgent branch tips, less often as branches lateral from prostrate nodes. Lesser branches 80-100 µ diameter, the apices forcipate. Cortication consisting of narrow, uneven bands of cells somewhat elongated lengthwise of the axis, in no definite order. Internodes to about 3 diameters long. Sporangia tetrapartite, 1-4 at a node, when single at the nodes in a unilateral series, but when more numerous irregular in arrangement, about half the sporangium projecting beyond the cortication, ovoid about 35 µ diameter, 50 µ long, the wall about 6 µ thick.
