Size: 17 cm.

Color: Ground color yellowish white with four yellow to reddish brown transverse bands, edges with brown and white on head and body, the first from front through eye to throat, the second from origin of dorsal to ventral, the third from spinous dorsal to origin of anal, the fourth, the broadest, from soft dorsal to soft anal and broadened on both fins, a fifth darker bands round caudal penduncle, a similar frontal stripe running to top of snout, on base of soft dorsal a blue-black round spot with a narrow white border, longitudinal rows of scales with a darker line, fins yellowish, soft dorsal and anal with an intramarginal narrow light band.

Height 1.5-1.7 head 2.2-2.3 in length, snout twice to thrice longer than eye, which goes 4-5 times in head. Rostro-dorsal outline of head concave before eye, abruptly ascending in a rounded line to origin of dorsal. Dorsal spines gradually increasing in size to the last, which goes more or less than twice in head, rayed part of dorsal much longer than spinous part, middle rays highest, posterior part angular, anal with the two posterior spines very strong, the last somewhat the longest, the rayed part rounded, caudal convex, pectorals acutely rounded, 1.5 to nearly twice in head, ventrals pointed, the first ray may be produced, their spine about equal to third anal spine. Least height of caudal peduncle more than 9 times in length of body.
