Size: 26.8 cm.

Color: In alcohol specimens brownish or reddish, between origin of first dorsal and second dorsal a large yellow oblong patch, its major part situated above lateral line, on caudal peduncle a black blotch occupying 25th to 27th or 24th to 26th scale of lateral line, the lower third situated below than line, on praeorbital a bluish gray broad band. Fins hyaline.

Oblong, anteriorly convex, somewhat tapering from first dorsal, where the height is somewhat more or less than 3.50 in length, head slightly longer, longer than high, its rostro-dorsal profile convex. Eye more or less than 5 times in head, situated high up, near dorsal profile, in posterior half of head, about twice its diameter from hind margin of operculum and about thrice from vertical through end of snout, almost one third shorter than strongly convex inter orbital space. Snout bluntly convex. Mouth oblique, mandibula enclosed. Barbels extending nearly to hind margin of operculum. Maxilla truncate behind, its distance from vertical through front border of eye almost equal to length of eye. Operculum with a flat spine. Gillrakers 18 to 20, on lower part of first branchial arch, the 5-6 lowest small or rudimentary. Scales large, ctenoid, reaching on head to nostrils, praeorbital naked, sensory tubes of lateral line arbores cent. Spinous dorsal acute, first spine minute, third the longest, 1.5 to 1.6 in head. Second dorsal and anal slightly emarginate, their anterior height subequal, about twice in head, the last ray somewhat prolonged. Distance between first and second dorsal nearly half length of base of first dorsal. Pectorals and verticals of equal length, about 3/4 of length of head. Caudal shorter than head. Least height of caudal peduncle half length of it.
