Description
Color: Dull purple

Plants bushy, very gelatinous, from a firm, small conical holdfast sharply expanding to a distinct stout primary axis 2-6 dm tall to 15 dm diameter. The branches terete, similar to but more slender than the primary axis, somewhat thicker in the middle than near the base and greatly tapering to the tips, alternately radially disposed, dividing to 2-3 degrees. Assimilatory filaments terminating in pyriform cells 20-25 ยต diameter, with single, large, distal, notably radially lobed chromatophores each with a prominent pyrenoid.
