Size: 70 cm.

Color: Greenish above, dull silvery below, a brown opercular indistinct spot, wanting in young, second dorsal with a dark margin, sometimes also anal.

Elliptical, compressed, height about 3.4 in total length, dorsal profile convex, ventrals less so, being almost straight to anal. Head more than 3.4 in total length, longer than high, rostronuchal line strongly arched in adult. Eye 4.2 to more than 5 in head, 1.5 to nearly 2 in blunt snout, a narrow posterior adipose eyelid, height of praeorbital equal to or shorter than eye, maxillary reaching to about front border of eye or to that of pupil, according to length. Mouth slightly oblique, situated rather low down, lower jaw little or not prominent. Teeth in villiform bands on jaw, vomer, palatines and in middle of tongue. Fine scales on ckeeks and temporal region, head otherwise naked, the naked triangular area on breast extending with a narrow stripe to about middle of adpressed ventral fin and dorsally somewhat surpassing base of pectoral. Anterior part of lateral line flatly curved above base of pectoral, gradually becoming straight below second third of soft dorsal, somewhat longer than straight part, which has 23-25 scutes developed only in its posterior half, rather small with low keels, stronger on caudal peduncle. Spinous dorsal rather weak, the third and fourth spine the longest, about thrice in height of body, lower than soft dorsal and anal, the anterior rays of which go about 2 1/2 in that height, last dorsal and anal ray finlet-like prolonged, both fins anteriorly with a well-developed basal scaly sheath. Caudal lobes moderate, equal. Pectorals falcate, about 2.5 in total length, their slender tips reaching to posterior half of anal, ventrals twice or somewhat more shorter than head.
