Description
Size: 20 cm.

Color: Brownish above, silvery below, no opercular spot, fins in alcohol specimens yellowish, anterior portion of soft dorsal with a blackish patch.

Oblong, compressed, dorsal profile a little more convex than ventral, height about 2.50 in length, head about 3.50, nearly as long as hight, its rostro-frontal profile ascending in a nearly straight line, with a shallow concavity above eye. Eye 3 to 3.50, situated with its major part in anterior half of head, equal to or somewhat shorter than snout and equal to inter orbital space. Lower jaw slightly longer, the upper terminating below front border or first third of eye, more than half its diameter equal highest part of praeorbital. Teeth in jaws in villiform bands, in the upper externally somewhat enlarged, in the lower posteriorly reduces to a single row, on the vomer anterior in a semilunar patch, with a median forward point, posteriorly in a median narrow band, equal bands on the palatines and in the middle oft he tongue. About 23 gillrakers on lower part of anterior arch, longer than half diameter of eye. Conspicuous scales cover the body, also the totality of the breast, on the head they are only wanting on the snout, praeorbital jaws, occipital crest and opercular apparatus lateral line moderately curved till below seventh to ninth dorsal ray, the straight part conspicuously shorter than the curved, the incipient shields small, opposite the thirteenth to fifteenth ray, the 25-30 shields becoming gradually broader, and diminishing again on caudal peduncle, the broadest equalling about 1/8 to 1/9 of height of body. Dorsal spines weak, the third the longest, less than 1/3 of height of body and lower than anterior rays of soft dorsal, which go about twice in head and are somewhat longer than anterior rays of anal. Both soft fins with a hight basal scaly sheath. Caudal lobes nearly equal. Pectorals falcate, equal to or somewhat shorter than head. Ventrals half length of head.
