Description
Size: 24 cm.

Color: silvery, back darker, a small opercular dark spot, axil of pectoral dark, dorsal and caudal more or less finely spotted.

Oblong-ovoid, dorsal and ventral profile equally convex, belly not carinate, height about 3.10 in length, head 3.25-3.45, acute, longer than hight, rostro-frontal line declivous, nearly straight. Eye 3 or somewhat less in head, its diameter about 1/5 longer than slightly convex interorbital space which is about equal to pointed snout, posterior adipose eyelid well developed reaching to inner border of pupil, the anterior eyelid much shorter. Lower jaw somewhat prominent, the upper terminating below anterior third of eye, posterior border of operculum with a rounded incision, filled up with a dark colored membrane. Shoulder-girdle crossed by a furrow at its junction with the isthmus. Teeth small, equal, in jaws in a single series, forming a band near symphysis of upper and lower jaw, two patches on vomer and a band on palatines and tongue. Gillrakers on lower part of first branchial arch about 23. Covered with moderate scales also on breast, cheeks, postorbital streak and operculum, lateral line with a short, nearly straight anterior portion which is about opposite the last dorsal spine, strongly bent downwards, to the straight posterior portion, which is nearly thrice longer than the anterior portion and is covered by 44-46 large plates, the highest of which are 1/4 of height of body. Dorsal spines weak, the second, third and fourth of about equal length and somewhat more than half length of head, slightly longer than first dorsal rays and conspicuously longer than first anal rays. Soft dorsal and anal with a basal scaly sheath. Pectorals falciform, less than head, reaching midway between free anal spines and commencement of soft anal. Ventrals half length of head. Caudal deeply forked.
