Description
Size: Max length 200 cm TL (male/unsexed); common length 180 cm TL (male/unsexed).

Max. weight reported: 4,650 g

Color: Bluish brown above, lighter to dirty white below. Edges of dorsal, anal and caudal slightly dark.

Body elongate and depressed. Mouth at end of a long, tubular snout, hexagonal in cross section; teeth in jaws small. Skin smooth. Head 2.5-2.9 in standard length. Depth of body 34-37 in standard length and about twice in width of body. Eye diameter 10.8-13.0 in head, 8.0-10.2 in snout and about 0.4-0.5 in nearly flat interorbital space. Maxillary equal to or longer than eye diameter. A ridge on either side of snout serrated. Median ridges on upper surface of snout converging anteriorly. No median scales before and behind dorsal and anal. A row of elongate bon plates present on midlines of body just anterior to dorsal and/or anal fin; spinules in skin well developed at all sizes. Vertebrae 76, the first 4 elongate and fused.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: 15-16; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: 14-15; number of rays in the pectoral fin: i, 14; number of spines and rays in the ventral fins: 6.
