Description
Size: 220 mm.

Color: In preserved specimens light brownish, with five to seven marron longitudinal bands, the four superior ones running from hind border of head obliquely to base of dorsal, the lower ones parallel to axis of body.

Height 2.3-2.5, 3-3.2 in length with caudal. Head 2.6-2.8, 3.3-3.4 in length with caudal. Eye 3.6-3.9, 1.2-1.3 in snout. Inter orbital space flat in young, rounded in older specimens, 1.2-1.5 in eye. Mouth oblique. Maxillary reaching to below front border of pupil. Small teeth in narrow bands in jaws, with an outer series of enlarged ones, those near symphysis of upper jaw strong canines. Small teeth on vomer in a ^ shaped patch, on palatines in elongate somewhat curved bands. Anterior part of head naked. Scales beginning on occiput behind eye. Temporal region naked. Six transverse rows of scales on preoperculum. Hind and lower preopercular limb naked. Posterior and inferior preopercular border denticulate. Preopercular notch shallow. Longitudinal rows of scales above and below lateral line oblique, ascending to dorsal profile. About 53-57 transverse rows of scales above and about 47-48 rows below lateral lines. First dorsal spine equal to half length of second, which is shorter than third. Fourth dorsal spine longest, equal to post orbital part of head. Soft dorsal rounded, somewhat lower than spinous part. First anal spine less than half length of second, which is equal to third and slightly less than length of snout. Soft anal rounded. Pectorals less than half length of snout shorter than head. Ventrals as long as snout and eye together. Ventrals spine shorter than post orbital part of head. Caudal emarginate.
