Size: 14 cm.

Color: Specimens yellowish or brownish, with pairs of dark transverse wavy lines, from snout to caudal and continued on vertical fins, which are often bordered with black or have a submarginal black band.

Elongate. Height 2.7-2.9, 3-3.1 in length with caudal. Head 5.8-6.2, 6.7-7 in length with caudal. Eyes 3.4-3.6, contiguous, the upper eye in advance of the lower one. Nostrils close together, covered by one cutaneous flap, which is elongated and longer than eye on coloured side. Snout shorter than or equal to eye. Mouth small, curved, reaching to frontborder of lower eye. Teeth villiform, bands in both jaws, more developed on blind side. Origin of dorsal above frontborderof upper eye. Dorsal and anal ending close to caudal. Right pectoral with a broad base, the upper ray as long as snout and eye, the following one somewhat shorter, the other rays rudimentary. Left pectoral broad-based, connected with branchiostegal membrane, its rays rudimentary. Longest rays of ventral longer than eye.
