Description
Size: Diameter (apical axis): 8-80 µm.

Color: Yellow brown.

It has a trapezoid outline with a concave valve face in broad girdle view. Cells are joined into helical chains by the costate ocelli positioned at the tip of the horns on the valve margin. The aperture between adjacent cells is very variable in width with an angular, elliptical to square shape. The single labiate process is located in the depression in the valve centre. Cells contain numerous small elliptical chloroplasts.
It is a phytosynthetic species.

Reproduction is both sexual and asexual.
