Description
Size: Height 3-5 cm.

Color: Brown

Thallus form and type: Frondose and ribbon type

Substratum: Intertidal rocks, coralline stones

Occurrence: Lower mid littoral zone, tidal streams

Season: November-April

Abundance: Scanty

Plants small; basal portion forming a minute disc. Upper portion dichotomously to irregularly branched, margins of branches entire, more or less wavy, apices round. Midrib more prominent in the lower portion of the branches. Thallus composed of 4-6 layers of cells in the midrib region and two layered in the wings. Cells of the midrib region small, more or less thick-walled, quadrate to rectangular, richly provided with chromatophores. Cells in the thallus-wing large, thin walled, more or less quadrate to rectangular, poor in contents.

Hairs and reproductive bodies occurring on both surfaces of the thallus, along the midrib; the former in regular disposed groups, and the latter irregularly scattered.
