Description
Size: 7.7-9 cm.

Color: Grayish, laterally with 5 indistinct red blotches. Head with numerous black spots. Anal fin dark. Pectoral fin darker towards lower margin, lower margin bordered with white. Caudal fin darker towards lower margin, lower margin bordered with white.

Body elongate, covered with cycloid scales, height 5.5-6.5 in length, head 4 in length. Eye 6 in head, interorbital half of the eye diameter. Snout as long as eye. Lateral line scales 50-55. Dorsal with 29-30 rays. Mouth oblique, upper jaw prominent. Maxillary extends to beyond eye. Teeth in upper jaw 8-16 on each side, in lower jaw horizontal, bilobate, 12-30 on each side. A pair of canines behind symphysis of lower jaw. Scales cycloid, becoming larger posteriorly. Head scaled above behind eye, on cheek and opercle. Dorsal fins sub continuous, the membrane behind the sixth ray of first dorsal fin is connected with the first ray of second dorsal fin. First dorsal fin about as high as body, third and fourth rays are filiform. Second dorsal and anal fin lower than first dorsal fin. Pectoral fin as long as postorbital part of head. Ventral fin a little shorter. Anal with 23 rays. Caudal fin pointed a little longer than head.

It lives in deep burrows which contain water even during ebb tides. This species cannot withstand drought conditions for a long period.
