Description
Length: 41cm

It is like a rather large, short-billed plover, with big, yellow eyes, made more prominently by a whitish superciliary line and a dark infraorbital one.

Color: The plumage is mostly pale brown with brownish-black streaks, except on the chin, throat and belly which are whitish. When it rises the wing shows a distinctive pattern, largely black with a broad bar bordered with white.

Habits: When disturbed it often runs rapidly for a short distance, with quick, pattering steps, with the head lowered and the neck retracted.
