Size: 58-60 mm SL (75-78 mm TL)

Color: Silvery with two longitudinal bands on the upper side of the body.

Mouth oblique, maxilla to reach below hind margin of pupil, pre-opercular ridge smooth. Hind margin serrate. Villiform teeth in two or three bands in each jaw. First dorsal spine little more than half of second, which is longest. Second anal spine about equals spine of second dorsal. Caudal emarginated, lateral line complete.

Dioecious, external fertilization, bearers, external brooders. Distinct pairing during courtship and spawning.
