Small gregarious species. Operacular crown almost at right angle to body, with a deep dorsal notch between opercular lobes. Opercular crown formed of 3 rows of golden paleae. Outer paleae broad, with smooth margin, terminating in 5-7 slender teeth of which median one elongated and barbed. Middle paleae spoon-shaped, erect, alternately long and short. Inner paleae spoon-shaped, all of same size.
