Size: 22-23 cm.

Color: In alcohol specimens brownish, with narrow dark longitudinal stripes, corresponding to the rows of scales.

Height 3.2-3.3, 3.6-3.7 in length with caudal. Head 3.5-3.8, 4-4.4 in length with caudal. Eyes 10-14, the upper one much in advance of lower one, separated by a scaly interspace which is about equal to one eye-diameter. Corner of mouth below hindborder of lower eye, much nearer to branchial opening than to end of snout. Hook of upper jaw not quite extending to vertical through lower eye. Scales ctenoid on both sides. Two lateral lines on colored side, separated by 15-16 scales.
Dorsal soft rays (total): 77 - 105; Anal soft rays: 70 - 82. Caudal vertebrae 36-39; mid-lateral line scales 73-96.
