Shell is very large , thick and elongately ovate with considerably deep and inflated valves; outline of the shell is rather regular; ends of the hinge line are more or less bluntly angular; posterior margin is broad, straight and more or less obliquely produced while anterior margin is much narrower and evenly rounded. Umbo prominent and moderately curved inwards but those of the two valves are separated by a wide gap; surface bears strong, broad, flattened radial ribs separated by very narrow but beep interstices; the edge of the inner surface of the shell is flattened and strongly toothed owing to the presence of the termination of the external ribs.
