Description
Size: 18-30 cm.

Color: Blue above, silvery below, with two rows of small round dark spots above and below the lateral line which is parallel to the dorsal profile.

Body is very much laterally compressed, without scales. Mouth upturned; eyes lateral, fairly large. Height about 1.4 in length, head about 3.3, obtuse, higher than longer. Eye nearly thrice in head, situated in its middle, behind the nearly vertical maxillary which extends below horizontal of lower border of eye. Teeth villiform, palatines edentulous. Preoperculum and operculum entire. Dorsal with a few spines in front and a large number of rays behind. Ventral profile deeply arched. Ventrals thoracic with one spine and five rays, the first ray being large and filamentous. Anal without spine and with numerous short rays. Caudal forked, no scutes on lateral line. Dorsal spines (total): 3 - 4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 40 - 45; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 30 - 33.
