Size: 20 cm.

Habits: Often follow ships, whales and dolphins upto the mouth of the rivers, glides lazily with horizontally held wings and dangling legs.

Above dirty black, rump white, under side and middle of underwings white, a black band along middle of belly, which differentiate this species from all other petrels, legs all black, tail rounded. Weak and zigzag flight from side to side.
