Description
Size: 26-27 cm.

Color: Over all sooty brown with whitish band on secondaries, conspicuous in upperwing flight pattern. Bill all black, legs flesh-colored. outer toes and webs black.

Habits: Fly close to waves, tail is genrally held slightly raised, do not follow ships. Repeatedly circles and meander low over surface when feeding.

A small brownish black gadfly petrel with paler chin and edges of greater wing coverts, short slim bill, short legs and long wedge-shaped tail. Wings long, in flight held forward and bowed.

Breeding season: The breeding season begins in April or May, with individuals forming colonies in a wide variety of habitats on offshore islands. Nests can be burrows, crevices, cracks or caves, under debris or vegetation cover.
