The carapace is almost as long as broad. The anterolateral margins are developed into two petaloid lobes, the one hepatic and the other branchial. The fomer is much larger than the latter. In Huenia proteus, the rostrum of male is extremely prolonged than in female. The rostrum is broadly triangular and short in both sexes. The median process is rounded at tip and is fringed on each side with hooked hairs. The neck is very short and the preorbital spines distinct.

These crabs live on the flat Halimeda weed, which they closely resemble both in shape and color.
