Climbers. Leaves ovate-elliptic-oblong-lenceolate, coriaceous, minutely cuspidate, acute, obtuse, rounded or sub-cordate at base, glabrous or pubescent on the midrib, with basal trichomes. Flowers in repeatedly forked cymes; calyx on the inside with 5 basal glands, 5-parted, segments oval-oblong, pale; corolla 5-parted, segments oval-oblong, dark purple; corona-scales at the outer angle very small, knob-shaped; anther short, with apical membrane over-reaching the stigma; stigma semi-globose, top of stigma with a central knob. Follicles finally more or less in a line with each other, ovoid-lanceolate, acuminate, smooth.

Flowering season: April-July; Fruiting season: July-October.

Seeds are comose.
