Description
Size: 1.5 cm.

Color: Exterior white with brown blotches but usually thickly covered with calcareous growths, interior and columella white.

Distinctive knobbly, chalky shell, up to 10 cm, with a very pronounced transverse row of knobs on each whorl. Strongly crenulate outer lip and a broad siphonal canal. Elongate, robust and heavily sculptured, protoconch of two whorls, with a prominent sinusigeral notch, adult whorls angulate, each bearing a single spiral row of prominent tubercles and a number of weakly nodulose spiral ribs, strong nodulose spiral ribs also present at the anterior end of the body whorl, base strongly excavated, anterior canal short, constricted, spirally channelled within, with a claw-like anterior extension crossing over the anterior canal and a strong parietal ridge beside a deep posterior canal, columella concave, with a thick callus and distinct though narrow lip.

It is the largest living species of the genus.
