Description
Erect terrestrial fern, 1-1.5 m tall; stipes woody, glabroush, arising from a stout woody rhizome; fronds unipinnate; pinnae 8-14, alternate, linear-oblong, rounded or retusely mucronate at apex, cuneate at base, lower sterile, upper ruddy-brown soriferous. Sori densely aggregated along the undersurface, non-indusiate.

Sori are formed during June-October.

This is the only terrestrial fern that grows in mangrove situations.

Importance:  Commercial
(The fronds are used for thatching, as cure for snake bites and boils. Pounded rhizomes are used for treating wounds. Roofing leaves to avoid termite attack, leaves and rhizomes are eaten raw and cooked at the time of famine.)
