Description
Trees, 10-20 m tall, 30-60 cm in diameter, stems somewhat curved, devoid of branches up to cetain height; bark smooth, whitish-grey. Leaves mostly bijugate, leaflets someĀ­times up to 2-6, each 8-13 x 4-9 cm, ovate-elliptic, inequilateral, subacute or retuse at apex, obliquely rounded at base. Flowers in terminal corymbs, 3-4 cm across deep purple with a single clawed petal; stamens 3; ovary with sub-truncate stigma. Pods 15-20 X 4-5 cm, obliquely oblong, woody, flattened, septate between the seeds. Seeds 3-8, orbicular, compressed with reddish-brown aril.

Flowering and fruiting from October-March, February-August (Orissa)

The tree can be identified by its bijugate leaves, single petal-lobe and flat woody pods.
