Size: Length 37.3-61.75 mm, maximum shell length 9 cm, commonly to 6 cm; width 19.35-28.8 mm; height 15.15-21.3 mm

Shell elongated oblong, thin. Umbo anterior in postion; anterior dorsal posterior dorsal concave; ventral margin almost straight. Anterior end rounded with straight square, posterior end with large gape.

Permanently imbedded in muddy bottoms of mangrove areas with the siphons flush with the surface and camouflaged by adhering sand grains. Once disturbed, the animal is incapable to reburrow as the reduced foot is only used as a cleansing organ.
