Organism information awaits expert curation
Taxonomy
Kingdom:Chromista
Phylum:Ochrophyta
Class: Phaeophyceae
Order:Dictyotales
Family:Dictyotaceae

Description
Size: Height 7-20 cm

Color: Yellowish brown

Thallus form and type: Frondose and ribbon type

Substratum: Intertidal rocks

Occurrence: Infra littoral fringe and sub littoral zone, tide pools

Season: November-April

Abundance: Dominant

Basal portion consisting of irregularly branched and bent, decumbent, short branches intertwined together. Rhizoids arising from the intertwined branches, fixing the plant to their substratum. From the decumbent branches spathulate outgrowths with marginal growth are occasionally formed, which grow like the erect parts of the thallus. Upper portion more or less dichotomously divided into foliaceous, spathulate branches. Lateral margins of the branches entire, apical margins involute. Growth of the plants by means of marginal meristem. It has a broad, flattened, dichotomously branched and ribbon-like thallus. The thallus shows 10 or more cells thick medulla of iso-diametric cells and colorless and a peripheral epidermal layer.

Hairs occurring in large groups scattered over the surface of the thallus. Reproductive bodies occurring in form of marginal sori. Antheridia cylindrical; oogonia club-shaped, associated with hairs. Tetrasporangia spherical, forming longitudinal rows with somewhat irregular outlines near the margins of the thallus.
